Meet Kate Cohen! You may already recognize Kate as one of our JuggernautAI sponsored athletes. She is a 4th year doctoral candidate pursuing her PhD in the field of Sport Psychology at Florida State University. Kate has extensive applied experience leading both one-on-one and team sessions with numerous D1 athletes. Within these settings, Kate assists these individuals with developing the mental skills and strategies needed for high-level sport performance. She further leverages her own experiences and sport psych background in the classroom where she teaches her undergraduate students in the realm of mindset-related topics (e.g., confidence, attention and focus, anxiety and arousal regulation, performing under pressure, flow, and motivation). She graduated from the University of Delaware having earned dual B.S. degrees in Exercise Science and Health and Physical Education, along with an M.S. degree in Health Promotion.

Kate’s introduction to the world of powerlifting came – ironically enough – after having torn both of her ACLs while competing in high school, where she played soccer, ran track and pole vaulted, and helped pave the way for young female athletes in male-dominated sports by becoming the first-ever female wrestler on Jackson Memorial High School’s wrestling team in her hometown of Jackson, NJ. It was during her physical therapy for those injuries when she was exposed to the world of strength training and powerlifting.

In 2010, having recovered from her ACL injuries, Kate began her competitive powerlifting journey. She has held the Raw American junior and collegiate squat, bench, and deadlift records. While living up and down the east coast, Kate has also set NJ, VA, and FL Squat, Bench, Deadlift, Push-pull, and Total state records in the raw open divisions. Kate presently holds competition PRs of a 132kg squat, a 75kg bench, and a 177.5kg deadlift. She maintains that while the physical aspects are certainly important, her mindset and use of mental skills and technique have allowed her to take her training to new heights. Just recently, she secured a 3rd place podium finish at the USA Powerlifting National Championships and earned her pro card. 

Kate uses her expertise in sport psychology to practice what she preaches. She is excited to serve as the resource needed to support and connect with those who are like her, and want to achieve training and mindset PRs.

Janyce Okamoto is the 2021 USAW National Champion in the 55kg Class. After years of competing as a National and International level figure skater, Janyce Okamoto transitioned to CrossFit in 2008. Coaching figure skating since 2004 and CrossFit since 2014. Janyce has been competing in Weightlifting since 2017 and made the switch to weightlifting full time in 2018, working with Team Juggernaut.

Janyce has her USAW Level 1, CrossFit L1, NASM Youth Exercise Specialist, and CrossFit Kids certifications and is the 55kg 2021 USAW National Champion.

Janyce currently coaches Weightlifting and CrossFit in Southern California.
